Tabitha's Breast Cancer Journey
About Tabitha
My name is Tabitha Strohm. I am 45 years old, a grandmother, mother of three, daughter, sister to many, aunt, best friend, and wife of ten years, and I'm on a Breast Cancer Journey.
Recently, my entire world has been turned upside down. While in the process of moving and getting my housing and other affairs in order, I needed surgery to remove a biopsy clip that seemed to be causing an allergic reaction. During the surgery, the doctors found something concerning and took a biopsy around it.
On May 31st, I received a phone call confirming that I have breast cancer and was asked to come in immediately to discuss the next steps. If you, or someone you know, has ever gone through the uncomfortable and sometimes painful battle of what happens within the Breast Cancer Journey, then you can understand how much this has turned my life upside down since receiving this dreadful news.
I am determined to face these challenges head-on with the support of my friends, family, and community, but your support and generosity are needed to help me through this Breast Cancer Journey.
Why I Need Your Help:
1. Transportation Costs: The nearest place for my radiation treatments is 34 miles away from where I live, which means driving 68 miles daily during my radiation treatments. Additionally, my oncologist is 44 miles away, making it an 88-mile round trip for each visit. The cost of gas and the wear and tear on my car are significant burdens.
2. Medical Expenses: As of June 24th, I have been dealing with an infection that my doctor is attempting to treat with antibiotics, but so far, they are not working. My next oncology appointment (which is 88 miles round trip) is scheduled for July 3rd. This could potentially lead to more appointments than originally planned, adding to my already tight budget. I also need financial assistance in purchasing medical items that are not covered by my insurance.
3. Basic Needs: I need help with food for long days away from home, personal care items, and rebuilding my life from scratch, as I now have little more than the clothes on my back.
4. Employment and Financial Stability: Five months ago, I started a great job, but due to the hours and everything I am going through, I had to leave it. I will be looking for a part-time job to support myself, but I can't do this alone. I am on the verge of losing my new car, which I can no longer afford. The most important thing I need at this time is funding to help make my car payments so I can continue making it to my doctor appointments and assistance with my basic living needs as well as the items I will require prior to and after my surgeries.
I am a loving, caring, giving soul with a very big heart. I would give you my last dollar if you asked. I love my fur babies just like my own kids and would rescue all the strays in town if I could! I believe in the power of community and the kindness of strangers. In this challenging time, I am hopeful that together we can make a difference.
